Professor Farrell traveled to Mantua, Italy, to collect a medal of honor awarded by the Accademia Virgiliana di Mantova (the Virgilian Academy of Mantua), in recognition of his long, productive, influential and transformative career in Virgilian studies. The citation noted his longstanding intellectual engagement with both Anglo-American and European/Italian scholarship, and praised his recent book, “Juno’s Aeneid”, as a “tour de force”. The medal features a portrait of Vergil.
