Abigail Worgul

Abigail Worgul received her Bachelor of Arts in Ancient Studies at UMBC in 2016, summa cum laude, where she wrote her Honors Thesis on the Temple of Vesta in the Roman Forum. After a year of German language study, she completed her Master’s degree in Ancient Greek language and literature at the University of Heidelberg, conducted in German. Her Master’s thesis studied prophecy in the Odyssey. She entered the PhD program at Penn in the same year. Her research bridges Ancient Medicine and Philosophy and centers on ancient theories about cognition and the body. She is currently writing her dissertation on Ancient Greek dream theory, in which she argues that for the Hippocratic author of On Regimen, Plato and Aristotle, dreaming is an epiphenomenon of metabolism. She has a passion for Latin epic as well. Outside of academia, Abigail enjoys studying voice, baking, crocheting, volunteering at church and spending time outside and with friends.
