What position they held after the payment of the troops was handed over to the quaestors is not clear, from want of information on the subject. In the 1st century B.C. they appear as a distinct class, from which, during the years 70-46 B.C., the third decuria of judges was appointed to represent the plebeians, the other two consisting of senators and knights.
