4:30- SCS Lecture & Reception, Ben Franklin Room 417 Spruce Street

"For the Roman jurists of the Classical period (30 BCE- 235 CE), one major problem was to establish their authority in determining law within trials. This talk reconsiders some well-known sources that show how they constructed this authority, especially during the mid-second century CE."

Each fall, the department invites a member of the board of directors of the Society for Classical Studies to speak in a special session of the weekly colloquium. The event is held on a Friday in stead of a Thursday, in conjunction with the SCS annual fall board meeting. Please join us for a reception following Professor Frier's lecture.
